Today was the 11th annual Beneeezy fun run 1K, 5K, 10K. This is the only run that my brother and I have done together. This race is very near and dear to my heart. This race is in honor of Ben Garcia a young man who left this Earth too soon after a night with friends. This year I let life get in the way of preparing for this run. My excuse to myself was that I was just too busy to go run after I got home from work. So Thursday night I had a wonderful epiphany- I would run this years race listen to a playlist filled with my favorite worship music and pray during my run.
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18
"You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." 1 John 4:4
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." Philippians 4:4-9
"Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I." Isaiah 58:9
So the race began and the beautiful uplifting son Greater by Mercy Me came on and I began to pray and thank God for the breath in my lungs and the ability to run today as well as all the people running along side men prayed for their health and spiritual health. At the next half mile I prayed for the athletes running with me I prayed for their seasons and their safety. For the student athletes that they understand their ability and who gave them their talents. At the next half mile I prayed for Ben's family and the family of his friends he spent his final moments with and for the people running this race to understand the meaning and impact it makes every year for those families. For everyone running this race to understand that this Earthly life is only temporary and one day we will be called home by our Creator. The next half mile I prayed for the community of Alvin to grow spiritually. For the youth to come alive with love and longing for a relationship with the King. The next half mile I prayed for the law enforcement officers that were stationed around the race course I prayed for their safety and peace of mind and that God protect them on every call they go out on. I prayed for all law enforcement and public safety officers for them to return home safely to their families always. For the next half mile I prayed for our schools, for educators, and for students. I prayed for their safety for them to have a great school year for them to be rooted in their faith and to honor God in all their actions. And for the last stretch of my run I prayed for God to do a good work in everyone around me for my family, friends, coworkers and so many more.
When my race was done I did not care how long I had run I did not care how exhausted I was or that I was tired or that my allergies were killing me. It had been the most incredible fulfilling run I had ever had. I was happy. I had peace in my heart. I realized the value of time. I appreciated the opportunity to run and offer my time running to God. I highly recommend running with your favorite worship music and some personal time with God! It feels incredible.
My prayer for you is that you're never too busy for God. I pray when you feel overwhelmed you cry out to your Creator for help and guidance. I pray you lean on Him when life seems hard. I pray you lay all your worries, burdens, busy, overwhelmed at the feet of Jesus because only He can make them into something beautiful.
